To the Christian community, everyday is always a Christmas day.  We always put Christ at the center of our lives and let Him reign to guide and direct our path as we traverse this never ending and exciting life’s journey. 

The VSU H.O.P.E and counselors participated in the HIV/AIDS Counselors and Peer Educators Congress and World AIDS Day celebration on November 30 and December 1, 2014 at the Ritz Tower de Leyte, Tacloban City. The gathering was attended by the different peer educators’ organization, namely: Katlo San Julian, H.O.P.E VSU, UPVTC, St. Scholastica College Tacloban, Remedios Trinidad Romualdez Medical Foundation (RTRMF), LNU, EVSU, Marabut Peer Educators, and Tacloban Peer Educators. Each group presented their accomplishments and activities.

The two-day activity sought to promote gender awareness and equality, promote better decision-making pertaining to relationships and health, reduce the stigma and discrimination around HIV/AIDS, and promote healthy behavior.

Moreover, the celebration of the World AIDS Day kicked-off with a parade around downtown Tacloban followed by a short program with the presence of Dr. Paula Paz M. Sydiongco, Assistant Regional Director of DOH Region 8, and representatives from the City Health Offices of Ormoc and Tacloban, Eastern Samar Provincial Hospital, DSWD, DILG and staff of DOH-RESU 8. BAYBAY CITY, Leyte — The Civil Service Commission (CSC), through Dir. Pharida Q. Aurelia, Field Director of CSC Biliran-Western Leyte Field Office, formally turned-over to the Visayas State University (VSU) through Dr. Jose L. Bacusmo, University President, the Certificate of Accreditation (Level II-Accredited Status) on November 24, 2014 at the VSU Center for Continuing Education.

The University Student Services Office (USSO) headed by Engr. Manolo B. Loreto, Jr., Dean of Students, sent seven delegates to the 35^th PACSA Annual National Convention and the 19^th PACS Annual National Convention for Student leaders on November 22-25, 2014 at the Teacher’s Camp in Baguio City, two participants to the 39^th YMCA Congress of Students, and one representative to the 19^th YMCA National Campus Club Advisers Seminar-Workshop on December 3-7, 2014 at the Teachers’ Camp in Baguio City.

The Philippine Association of Campus Student Advisers (PACSA) was guided by its theme “PACSA @ 35 turns CORAL: Celebrating Our Rebirth as an Association of Leaders.”  Its mission is the integral and holistic formation of campus advisers and student leaders from the 17 regions of the country through an enlightened intellectual, moral, social, and spiritual citizenry.

The VSU participants included: (Students) Chrisalyne S. Malasaga, Joaquin Javier F. Balce, David Winston Tabada, and Randy C. Briones; and (Faculty and Staff) Christie Cyrene T. Tauy, Raymund M. Igcasama, and Rene Rose.

On the other hand, the Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) of Manila, in coordination  with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED),  organized the YMCA Congress with the theme “Youth Rev: Towards a JUST Society.”

According to Dr. Adelaida C. Fronda, Chairperson of the YMCA National Congress, the two separate occasions aim to create a higher level of awareness, understanding and appreciation among the youth on the current political, economic and societal factors that contribute to the prevailing societal problems affecting them; provide a venue for healthy sharing of ideas, aspirations, ideals and dreams toward identifying societal constraints and support mechanisms instrumental to the realization of their dreams and to prepare collectively their personal and group roadmap on the youth journey towards a better future.

BAYBAY CITY, Leyte —  The Visayas State University (VSU), through the Office of the Vice President for Planning, Resource Generation and External Affairs (OVPPRGEA), spearheaded the Performance Planning Review and Workshop on November 14 and 17, 2014 at the VSU Center for Continuing Education. The activity sought to revisit the 2014 OPCR targets and partial accomplishments of the different colleges, centers, departments, offices/units of the University.

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) during its 114th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary named Dr. Edgardo E. Tulin, University Professor and VP for Instruction, as one of the seven (7) Presidential Lingkod Bayan awardees. 

The accreditors scrutinized the voluminous documents prepared by the local counterparts in the different programs that were subjected for Level IV accreditation.
